What's Blooming Kansas City - Bradford Pears (UGH!)

 


Not all that blooms this time of year is a good thing. The Bardford or Callery pear is one of them. They are so bad that several non-profits and local government agencies are sponsoring programs to eradicate the trees. As the article suggests, there are plenty of native trees that are just as pretty. My next post will be on one of them.

 

Pretty Maids All in a Row - NOT!!!

Recently I told my sister about the problem with Bradford pear trees. She worked at a tree farm in the early 80's. She told me they had acres of Bradford pears because they were thought to be the perfect landscape tree. Unfortunately, sometimes our meddling with nature bites us in the behind years later.
